Students with learning disabilities attend college with much success when they find schools that provide the appropriate accommodations and support. The key for success is to DO YOUR RESEARCH!

Know your students' disabilities, understand what accommodations and services they will require in college. Then, identify schools by which provide the accommodations and services that meet your students' needs. A good match will provide students the support they need to thrive!
Levels of Support
Not all colleges are created equal when it comes to providing accommodations, services and environment for students with learning disabilities. Colleges come in various shapes, sizes and services. Tips for Families
PsychoEd or Psychologist assessment is absolutely necessary to access accommodations and services at the college level.
“Psycho-educational assessments evaluate a child’s thinking/reasoning abilities and underlying psychological processes (e.g., memory, attention, processing, executive functioning), academic achievement (e.g., reading, writing, math, oral language), behavior and social-emotional functioning in the context of her stage of development and in comparison to other children her age.” For additional information click here.
Visit colleges and universities to evaluate the accommodations and services provided by the school.
Schedule a meeting with the Office of Learning Disabilities. Families will be able to get a feel for the environment and campus, as well as find out specifics about what services are provided.
